Rep. Kevin Steele (R-Dade City) has dropped out of the race for Chief Financial Officer, citing family reasons, and will instead run for his old House seat in District 55, according to a statement.

"After much prayer and reflection with my family, we have made the decision that I will seek reelection to Florida House District 55. While I carefully considered a run for statewide office, it is important to put my family first at this time," Steele wrote.

Rep. Steele has represented HD 55 since 2022. Steele jumped into the CFO race in November 2025.

"Being present for them and staying close to home matters most, and I will continue serving the community, and I am proud to represent the same dedication and conservative leadership they expect and deserve," Steele continued.

With Rep. Steele out, the current Chief Financial Officer, Blaise Ingoglia, likely has a clear path to keep his position. Other candidates include "Shark Tank" entrepreneur John Smith.

The CFO election is Nov. 3. Steele also endorsed Ingoglia in his statement.

"I have spoken with Blaise Ingoglia and am proud to give him my full and total endorsement. I look forward to working alongside him to keep Florida strong and moving in the right direction," Steele wrote.

District 55 covers part of Pasco County. Brenton Basinger and Walter Price will now be competing with Steele for the Republican nomination.

Steele won the seat with over 77% of the vote in 2022 and 64% in 2024. The HD 55 election is also on Nov. 3.

"Serving the people of District 55 is a privilege, and I remain deeply committed to fighting for our community and delivering the leadership they deserve," Steele added.
