TALLAHASSEE—Ahead of the 2026 Legislative Session in Florida,  Rep. Neal Dunn’s (R-FL) announced that he would not seek re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives. Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chair Evan Power could be inline to replace him.

Speaking to reporters at the Florida Capitol, the RPOF chair shared his intention to run for the seat, suggesting, however, that people should ‘hold their horses’ on the matter.

Calling Rep. Dunn “a tremendous congressman,” Chair Power praised the Republican congressman’s efforts in the House, noting that “he worked really hard for the district. After Hurricane Michael, he provided the funding to maintain Tyndall Air Force Base in our district.” “He’s a good friend of mine, so I want to thank him for his service and where we’re going,” Chair Power added.

Speaking on the future of Rep. Dunn’s congressional seat, the RPOF chair confirmed that he is interested in making a run for the seat, but before he makes an announcement, he wants to make sure that he’s the right candidate for the job. This means discussing the venture with other possible interested candidates.

“With an opening, it’s something I’m going to strongly consider because the district and our country need to grow willing to fight for Donald J. Trump as the President,” Chair Power commented. He further commented that the candidate to succeed Rep. Dunn should have “a proven track record of fighting for Donald Trump,” stressing that “that’s what’s most important for this district.”

Power, however, has already garnered support from some members of congress, which could help his chances of winning the seat.

A member of Congress who spoke to The Floridian on the condition of anonymity shared a glowing endorsement, commenting that "Evan Power would make a great addition to the Florida congressional delegation. He is exactly what we need to help President Donald Trump implement his ‘America First’ agenda.”

If Power runs for Congress, who will replace him?

Just as President Trump is expected to help decide who will replace Rep. Dunn, the next RPOF chairman will also be someone that the president supports.

Enter Miami-Dade Chairman Kevin Cooper.

While there have been other county chairmen that support Trump's "America First" agenda, Cooper has been the most outspoken supporter of Trump, and has proven that he can fundraise at the local level.

Power is expected to make a formal announcement by the end of the week.
