Floridians hitting the road can expect cheaper gas prices ahead of the Christmas holiday compared to the same time last year, according to AAA.
As of Tuesday, December 23, the average price for a gallon of gas in the Sunshine State was $2.83, down 16 cents from 2024. Moreover, Florida's average was about 3 cents lower than the national average of $2.86.
Prices have also steadily dropped in the last 30 days, with an average of $3.10 acoss the Sunshine State in November. Additionally, prices were down six cents from last week.
Overall, drivers who are trading in snow for sand should be pretty happy. But if you're still looking to save a few pennies, head to areas of the Gulf of America.
According to AAA, gas prices are lowest in the western panhandle, with Okaloosa and Bay counties showing an average price of $2.56. Okaloosa County also had the lowest state price heading into the Thanksgiving holiday a month ago.
In addition, prices are lower than average in Santa Rosa County ($2.59), Escambia County ($2.61), Walton County ($2.63), Leon County ($2.65), Jackson County ($2.68), Gulf County ($2.68), and Gadsden County ($2.71). Leon County is notably home to Tallahassee.

Gas prices varied across metropolitan areas, but mostly around or below the state average. In Hillsborough County (Tampa), gas is $2.83. In Duval County (Jacksonville), it's $2.85, while in Orange County (Orlando) it's $2.87.
As is fairly typical, prices are a bit higher in South Florida, with Miami-Dade County (Miami) at $3.16, Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach) at $3.01, and Broward County (Fort Lauderdale) at Broward County ($2.87). Pump costs are also a bit higher heading west across I-75 (Alligator Alley), with Collier County at $2.94, and down near the Florida Keys (Monroe County) at $3.11.
For fairly low prices, head a bit further north along the west coast, with Lee County at $2.83, Charlotte County at $2.76, Manatee and Pinellas counties near Tampa at $2.80.
