Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart believes that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has a strong chance to prevail against any Democratic challenger should he decide to run for president in 2028.
The South Florida Representative told The Floridian that despite rumors and hopes that the Secretary and former Florida Senator will run for president, he knows that Rubio is “singularly focused on getting his job done.”
Despite not knowing what the future holds, Congressman Diaz-Balart, who’s a friend and “big fan” of the Secretary, affirms that “Democrats are fearful of running against” Rubio in the upcoming elections, arguing that the Secretary of State is more popular nationwide.
“But I know that Marco [Rubio]’s not even looking at that… I mean, genuinely, he’s not; I can tell you that,” Rep. Diaz-Balart assured.
Poll Data Indicates Support For Rubio As Presidential Candidate
A newly published poll from the University of New Hampshire Survey Center indicated that Secretary Rubio is second, next to Vice President JD Vance, as a prospect for the executive role.
According to the poll, Vice President Vance has 36 percent of the potential vote, while Secretary Rubio sits at 26 percent.
The Survey Center’s previous survey in Feb 2026 had Vance sitting at 53 percent and Secretary Rubio at merely 7 percent.
Another survey by Emerson College Polling tells a different story, as votes between Vance and Rubio are neck and neck at 39 percent and 38 percent, respectively.
