Floridians hitting the road can expect cheaper gas prices ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday compared to the same time last year, according to AAA.
As of Tuesday, November 25, the average price for a gallon of gas in the Sunshine State was $3.08, down five cents from 2024. However, the price was up a bit from a week ago, when it was $2.95, and a month ago, when it was $2.93.
All in all, Florida drivers should be fairly happy during one of the busiest travel stretches of the year. It also doesn't hurt to drive to your Thanksgiving destination in low to mid-80s weather, even in possible traffic.
According to AAA, gas prices are lowest in the western panhandle, with Okaloosa County showing an average price of $2.68. Santa Rosa County also had a price of $2.68, while Leon County, home to Tallahassee, had a slightly higher price of $2.90.
Gas prices were slightly higher in Calhoun, Franklin, Gulf, and Liberty counties, where gas ranged from $2.91 to $3, but prices were generally lower than the state average in the turn of Florida's Big Bend region.
On the flip side, Monroe County, home to the Florida Keys, unfortunately, had the highest average gas price at $3.27. Ironically, Union County, in the north-central part of the state, had the second-highest price at $3.22.
Heavy metropolitan areas also had various prices, but none lower than the state average. In fact, most areas away from the panhandle were around or above the state average.
Duval County (Jacksonville): $3.09
Broward County (Fort Lauderdale): $3.09
Hillsborough County (Tampa): $3.13
Orange County (Orlando): $3.14
Miami-Dade County (Miami): $3.16
Palm Beach County (West Palm Beach): $3.24
Despite higher-than-average gas prices in populated areas of the state, Floridians are still spending less compared to California or New York.
In California, gas prices averaged a whopping $4.59 heading into Turkey Day. New York was a bit more normal at $3.15.
Florida was higher than neighboring southeastern states, with Georgia, Alabama, and Louisiana all registering prices in the $2 range.
