The White House celebrated gas prices averaging under three dollars nationwide for the first time in over four years this week, crediting President Donald Trump for the achievement.
"Thanks to President Trump’s unleashing of American energy, the national average gas price drops BELOW $3 for the first time in over four years," the White House posted on social media. "Promises made, promises kept."
According to a report from GasBuddy®, the average price for a gallon of gas is $2.98, down about four cents over the last week. The figure follows the site's complication of 12 million individual price reports from over 150,000 gas stations across the nation.
"Currently, 35 states have average gas prices below $2.99/gal, and GasBuddy even recorded the first $1.99 cash price at a station in Evans, Colorado, with stations in Oklahoma and Texas not far behind," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "Barring any major disruptions, gas prices are likely to remain slightly below year-ago levels and could stay under $3 for much of the next few months.”
In Florida, gas prices were well below $3 per gallon across the state, including in its major metros.
- Tampa $2.83
- Jacksonville $2.87
- Orlando $2.89
- Miami $2.91
Gas prices were under the $3 mark in Pensacola, Ocala, Sarasota, Cape Coral, Naples, Gainseville, and Tallahasee - with the state capital seeing an average price of $2.80 per gallon.
"President Trump understands that energy dominance is a key driver for growing our economy and lowering costs — making good on a promise he repeatedly made on the campaign trail after years of Biden-induced economic disaster," the White House added.
They also slammed former President Joe Biden for having gas prices above $3 on average for the majority of his term. Prices also went above four dollars five times during Biden's presidancy, as well as over $5 once.
In contrast, gas prices were under $3 per gallon during the entirety of Trump's first term in office, with a low of $1.94 in April 2020.
