Representative Maxwell Frost (D-FL) ripped Representative James Comer (R-KY) for denying him and other Congressmen permission to visit El Salvador on behalf of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, calling it "pretty shameful."

"Chair Comer denied our request for an official trip to El Salvador to advocate for due process and the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Pretty shameful. Good thing I don't need Comer's permission to get on a plane," Rep. Frost said in a recent X (formerly Twitter) post.

As NPR reported, Rep. Frost, along with Representatives Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), Robert Garcia (D-CA), and Maxine Dexter (D-OR), were nevertheless still able to visit El Salvador to advocate for Abrego Garcia's return. However, the visit is not part of an official congressional delegation (CODEL).

"While Donald Trump continues to defy the Supreme Court, Kilmar Abrego Garcia is being held illegally in El Salvador after being wrongfully deported," said Rep. Garcia, adding, "That is why we're here — to remind the American people that kidnapping immigrants and deporting them without due process is not how we do things in America."

Abrego Garcia, originally from El Salvador, is an illegal alien who was living in Maryland when he was deported in mid-March. The Supreme Court issued an order requiring the Trump Administration to "facilitate the return" of Abrego Garcia, but they have refused to do so. El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele also refuses to hand Abrego Garcia back over to the United States.

Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) had recently visited El Salvador on behalf of Abrego Garcia, which earned fierce criticism from Patty Morin, the mother of Rachel Morin, a woman who was raped and murdered in 2023 by an illegal alien.

Recent investigations by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) suggest that Abrego Garcia is a member of the notorious Mara Salvatrucha, better known as MS-13, which was recently branded a terrorist organization by the Trump Administration.

Other unsavory details about Abrego Garcia include supposed involvement in human trafficking in 2022, and a 2021 restraining order filed by his wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, for domestic violence.

Frost traveled to El Salvador anyways.
