In some part, the upcoming midterm elections are a mandate on President Donald Trump, but in Florida, the push-and-pull between conservatism and democratic socialism rages on.

In a new advertisement released by the Byron Donalds campaign, Raymond Molina, a Bay of Pigs veteran, pushes back against “this new breed of Democrats,” warning that David Jolly is welcoming socialism.

“I know what socialism is,” Molina argues, adding that “David Jolly says there’s room for them in the party. He will give them power… to destroy America or worse.”

The rise of the Democratic Socialists of America has led to a greater influence in the political landscape across the country.

State Rep. Angie Nixon (D-FL), who is currently vying for Senator Ashley Moody’s seat, joined the DSA, arguing that the organization’s platform is about giving power back to the people. With names like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shedding light on the political stance, the Democratic Party has welcomed numerous candidates who share the same beliefs.

While Jolly has been coy so far about the influence of democratic socialism in the Democratic Party, he responded to the advertisement from the Donalds campaign, pushing back against socialism and accusing the Donalds campaign of “manipulating” Molina’s words.

“Byron and I both reject socialism,” Jolly wrote on social media. “It’s a shame he’s manipulating Mr. Molina in this moment.”

However, Molina is sure of his stance against the gubernatorial hopeful, vowing to "never vote for David Jolly."

“I lost my country once. I won’t lose another.”

Jolly, who formerly served in the House as a Republican, is now looking to change the top post in Florida from red to blue.

Recent polling has Rep. Donalds with a 10-point advantage over the gubernatorial hopeful.
