Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Angie Nixon shared she has received an endorsement from EMILYs List in her bid for Senate.
EMILYs List, founded in 1985, is a political action committee (PAC) dedicated to elected Democratic pro-choice women to office.
"Today we're endorsing @AngieNixon for U.S. Senate. Angie is a fighter. She's a state representative, a mom, and a fierce union organizer," EMILYs List wrote. "She has built a powerful grassroots campaign that has put this seat solidly on the map, and we're proud to be with her. Let's flip this seat!"
Rep. Nixon, a member of the Florida House out of Jacksonville, thanked EMILYs List for its endorsement on social media, writing, "Thank you so much! Honored to be endorsed."
Their support follows an endorsement from New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez last month. Rep. Nixon has also been endorsed by U.S. Reps. Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-FL), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Massachusetts U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren.
The contingent of popular progressive Democrats is hoping to boost Nixon's campaign to turn out the base in November. Nixon is also a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) along Reps. Ocasio Cortez and Tlaib.
The pair, along with Reps. Omar and Pressley are commonly known as "The Squad," a progressive Democratic group of Congress. Nixon could be part of that group if elected in the future.
Nixon is competing against Sen. Ashley Moody (R-FL) in the Senate special election primary. A poll conducted last month showed Moody with a 7-point lead in the race.
EMILYs list has also endorsed several other Florida Democratic candidates, including Leela Gray in U.S. House District 13, Pia Dandiya in U.S. House District 22, and Kathy Castor in U.S. House District 14. Other notable names include New York Gov. Kathy Hochol, Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar for Governor, and Amy Acton for Ohio Governor.
