Since the accusations of Russian collusion were levied against former President Donald Trump (R), some have tried to link other Republicans to the former superpower as sympathizers or even supporters of the nation and their president Vladimir Putin. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was recently included in that mix.

Moreover, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there have been those who do not want to empty Congress’s purse towards the war effort in support of the Ukrainians. Because of this, some have accused some House Republicans, namely Reps. Lauren Boebert and Matt Gaetz,  of being supporters of the Russians by proxy.

However, Rep. Gaetz attempted to clear the air today.

“I’m not pro Russia. I’ve even been personally sanctioned by Putin. I’m pro America. Bathing historically corrupt countries in US weapons and cash typically doesn’t go well for America.  (See Afghanistan),” tweeted Gaetz.

Not only are a number of Republicans critical of the U.S. government sending tens of millions of dollars (it’s in the hundreds of millions now) to the Ukrainian war defense fund, but they are skeptical that the funds are getting to their final destination with the same intent that the American people have been promised: Ukrainian war defense. Rep.-Elect Cory Mills (R-FL) is one of those critical Republicans.

"Every single person, all of my colleagues, everyone in the press corps, is American taxpayers. We deserve to know where our money is being spent, and where it's being utilized,” stated Rep.-elect Mills in mid-November while demanding an audit of the Ukrainian funds in his first press conference after winning election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Why are we allowing this to grow and become some warmongering, military-industrial complex buildup, that only benefits who? Not the American people. So I think there's a lot of questions that need to be asked on this, but the real answer is this: Americans deserve transparency of where their money goes. That is our job as elected officials,” Mills concluded.

Mills and Gaetz will be sworn in on January 3rd to serve their 1st and 4th terms respectively.
