Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Fla.) pushed back against Sen. Ashley Moody (R-Fla.) 'Red Scare' effort against Democratic challenger Angie Nixon as the countdown to the 2026 midterm elections approaches.

Rep. Frost responded to Sen. Moody's recent post calling progressive canvassers traveling from New York to Florida in support of Nixon Communists.

Republican's Anti-Communist Sentiments

With the Democratic Socialists of America's (DSA) recent rise in popularity, the Republican Party has capitalized on anti-communist and anti-socialist sentiment to retain support from Americans ahead of the midterms.

Congressman Byron Donalds (R), Sen. Moody, and Congresswoman Maria Elvira Salazar (R) have used the anti-communist sentiment to jab at the Democratic Party and its candidates as they fight to maintain a Republican stronghold in the Sunshine State.

Following House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' (D-N.Y.) Miami visit, Congresswoman Salazar accused her opponent, Eliott Rodriguez and Jeffries of being Socialists.

Republican Secure Higher Favorability

The rhetoric appears to be working, as these statewide challengers and local candidates continue to receive support from Floridians, especially those who have endured oppressive Communist regimes, like that of Cuba.

According to a new Florida International University (FIU) poll, 68% of registered Cuban voters would vote for the Republican runner-up in their congressional district, despite the party's nationwide favorability being 37.7%.

Sen. Moody (51%) and Congressman Donalds (60%) also received outstanding support among respondents who named a candidate in statewide races compared to Nixon's (26%) and David Jolly's (24%).

Latino Vote's Significance Ahead of the 2026 Midterms

The Latino vote has proven to be a significant factor in these upcoming elections.

With just a week away from the elections, Nixon has faced scrutiny for her comments on Cuba's regime amid her efforts to gain support for Puerto Rican voters.

Jolly has also faced a fair share of criticism following resurfaced footage showing his previous approval of a Cuban consulate in Florida despite its rejection from South Floridians.
