Meta Platforms faces heavy scrutiny after Democratic candidate for Florida’s U.S. Senate seat, Angie Nixon, revealed it suspended one of her campaign’s social media accounts just a week ahead of the 2026 Midterm election.
The page in question was Nixon's LatinosConAngie Instagram account, a campaign page focused on building support among the nation's Latino community.

"This page is a critical communication tool for reaching Latino voters and mobilizing our community," Nixon wrote. "With just seven days until Election Day, every minute matters."
"We are calling on Meta to immediately restore the page and provide an explanation for its removal. Voters deserve access to critical election information, especially in these final days," she added.
As of Oct. 28, 2026, Meta reinstated the account.
Boricuas For Angie Rally
The page was suspended amid the Democratic challenger's Boricuas for Angie rally in Osceola County, home to one of the state's Puerto Rican communities.
Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.), and Maxwell Alejandro Frost (D-Fla.) co-hosted the event.

Accusations of Political Censorship
Meta's involvement has drawn backlash from critics who have pointed out the platform's previous censorship efforts.
On Oct. 17, 2026, the platform suspended the Instagram account of the "No Kings" protest movement.
The "No Kings" movement is a decentralized nationwide protest coalition representing thousands of President Donald Trump dissenters.
A few days after the suspension, Meta issued an apology for the act.
"These abrupt, high-volume, sequential requests in a short period resembled automated bot traffic rather than an ordinary human browsing our systems. This activity caused our automated protections to incorrectly take the No Kings Instagram account offline," said Meta spokesperson Andy Stone.
Election Interference Accusations
Additionally, Meta's involvement in foreign matters has also come into question after allegations that the company's social media platforms contain biased AI restrictions and algorithms to favor a political candidate over another.
On Oct. 15, 2026, a judge of Brazil's top electoral court ordered Meta to adopt measures enforcing equal treatment of Brazil's two presidential candidates after it was accused of suppressing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's content while inflating Pro- Flávio Bolsonaro content.
