Lt. Gov. Jay Collins announced a comprehensive plan to cut the cost of living for Florida families while speaking at a press conference in Winter Park this week. The plan, known as the "Live Florida" initiative, includes property tax relief, insurance reform, workforce opportunities, educational training for students, and food security as Collins builds his case for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in August.
"Affordability is not an abstract policy issue," Collins said in a press release. "It is the grocery bill, the rent, the insurance renewal, the power bill, the gas tank, the child care payment, and whether a family can still believe Florida is a place where hard work pays off. As Governor, I'm going to Make Florida Affordable Again."
The Live Florida initiative is as follows:
Property Tax and Homeownership Relief - Lt. Gov. Collins vowed to execute Florida's property tax amendment, if passed this November by Florida voters, into a "working system." The amendment needs 60% approval to pass.
Insurance Cost and Disaster Recovery Reform - Lt. Gov. Collins promised to push for "faster recovery, stronger mitigation, market stability, and accountability" on insurance to provide relief for Floridians.
Affordable Energy and Utility Protection - Collins pledged to make utility affordability a "kitchen-table issue," vowing Floridians should not have to choose between cooling and groceries.
Workforce Pathways and Better Opportunity - Collins previously pitched a “Operation F3: Florida Families First" education platform in May, which calls for "workforce training, cybersecurity, and expanded education pathways" for career-minded students. Collins also released a plan to strengthen Florida’s workforce over the growing issue of H-1B Visas.
Food Security and Grocery Affordability - Collins vowed to grow more produce, distribute smarter, and assist community partners in allocating healthy foods across the state.
Collins is in a Republican primary with U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, and businessman James Fishback.
The primary is Aug. 18, 2026.
