Rep. Lindsay Cross (D-St. Petersburg) announced in a social media statement and video post that she will not seek re-election in House District 60 this November.

"I am eternally grateful to everyone that has supported my campaigns and allowed me to serve in the Florida Legislature," Cross said. "Over the past four years, I have worked hard to live up to the promises I made to my district and supporters like you. I am proud to have brought resources back home to our community to repair infrastructure, improve water quality, create jobs, support the arts, and provide critical programs for hard-working families."

Rep. Cross was first elected to HD 60 in 2022. The area covers parts of Pinellas County, including a portion of St. Petersburg, on Florida's west-central coast.

"Working across the aisle, I am so deeply proud of the policies I helped pass to protect our natural environment, increase affordable housing options, and better prepare for and recover from natural disasters, like hurricanes," Cross said.

Rep. Cross did not indicate any future political plans. Cross's background includes an environmental scientist with a degree in environmental health from Colorado State University and a master's degree in environmental science and policy from the University of South Florida.

"I plan on staying engaged in the work: ensuring our water stays clean, investing in the life of our community and state, and supporting candidates who share our values," Cross added.

Cross won her last election by seven points over Republican Ed Montanari in 2024.

HD 60 is widely considered a competitive district in the state, making the opening that more intriguing for Republicans, and one for Democrats to hold.

"I make this decision with the understanding that 2026 is on track to be a strong election cycle for candidates that share our values," Cross shared. "However, after nearly seven years away from my community during my time as an environmental advocate and as an elected representative, I am exploring other ways to make a positive impact in our state."
