Representative Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) discussed Republicans' chances in the 2026 midterm elections with The Floridian, saying he "likes them" and that Republicans should emphasize that they have fulfilled their campaign promises.
"The number one thing as an elected official, period, is [to] back up the promises made in the campaign," Rep. Haridopolos commented. "We promised to secure the border, we did that. We promised to stop the largest tax hike in American history; we did that. We promised to cut taxes on overtime, tips, and Social Security; we did that, and that is a welcome change. That is not a common thing, unfortunately, in Washington."
Rep. Haridopolos acknowledged, however, that the spike in gas prices was due to the conflict with Iran, but at the same time, "only because every President since 1979 has said 'we can get rid of this' or 'cripple the Iranian regime.' There is finally a President who has done that, and we are paying the short-term price for higher gasoline prices."
The long-term benefits, he said, are that "we are in a much better position than we were two years ago," since the United States is producing more oil domestically and is in control of the oil-rich Venezuela.
The Florida congressman added that "we know that we have crippled the ability of Iran to wreak havoc, not only in the Middle East, but in that whole region, because they again lied about their ability to fire missiles 2,500 miles."
As a result, Haridopolos emphasizes that Republicans will tell voters, "You have two options: You can continue on this positive path of keeping your promises, or you can go back to the failed programs that put us in the majority in the first place."
He pointed to blue states like California, Oregon, New York, and, most recently, Virginia, where Democrats "campaign like they are talking about lowering prices, and then come in and they raise taxes, and they make it easier for illegal aliens to continue to not only take services from people, but also, sadly, do some really bad things to their own citizens."
"So these elections are about contrast," Haridopolos concluded. "We are going to offer [voters] a positive vision of allowing them to keep more of their own money, and Democrats are going to say all of the answers can be solved in Washington. I like my chances."

Who’s going to balance the budget?!
