The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) criticized the state of California in a series of "Don't California My Florida" posts comparing prices of everyday necessities between both states on social media this week.
The RPOF's jabs at California included gas prices, electricity prices, egg prices, bread prices, and milk prices.
Gas Prices (according to the RPOF)
Florida: $4.16 - $4.23
California: $5.89 - $5.93
Difference: +$1.70 per gallon
"Thanks to Florida’s conservative leadership, we keep prices lower for families," the RPOF wrote.
Notably, gas prices have risen across the country since President Donald Trump launched a war against Iran in late February. According to AAA, Florida's average for a gallon of gas was $3.49 a month ago and $3.20 a year ago to date. California's was $5.20 a month ago and $4.94 a year ago to date.
The average price in the U.S. is $4.17.
Electricity prices
Florida: $0.16/kWh
California: $0.34/kWh
Difference: $0.18/kWh
"Thanks to Florida’s conservative elected leadership, we keep energy costs lower," the RPOF wrote.
According to a report, California has the second-highest residential electricity rate in the country, while Florida is in the middle of the pack.
Egg Prices
Florida: $4.01-$4.25/dozen
California: $4.63 - $5.14/dozen

"Thanks to Florida’s conservative elected leadership, we keep costs lower at the grocery store," the RPOF wrote.
According to a report, the average U.S. price for a dozen eggs was $2.50 as of April.
Bread Prices
Florida: $3.60/loaf
California: $4.20/loaf
Difference: $0.60 (around 14% lower)
"Florida’s conservative leadership delivers real savings at the grocery store," the RPOF wrote.
According to a report, the average price for a pound of white bread was $1.85 as of February.
Milk Prices
Florida: $4.11/gallon
California: $4.72/gallon
Difference: $0.61 (around 14% lower)
"Florida’s conservative leadership delivers real savings at the grocery store," the RPOF wrote.
According to the United States Department of Agriculture, the average price for a gallon of whole milk was $3.67 as of March 2026.
While highlighting its edge, the RPOF's posts follow a recent Public Opinion Research Lab poll showing affordability/cost of living as the lead issue for Floridians. The issue was also the top choice across party lines.
The issue has also caught the attention of Florida gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner (R), who kicked off his statewide “Affordability Now Tour” this week.
