Representative Byron Donalds (R-FL) roundly denounced several lawsuits that have been filed in the wake of Governor Ron DeSantis's (R-FL) signing of the Florida SAVE Act during a recent appearance on Fox Business's Varney & Co., claiming Democrats are opposed because they want to cheat in elections.

Gov. DeSantis signed the bill into law on Wednesday, which is essentially a state-level version of the federal SAVE America Act that has continually stalled in the Senate, requiring proof of citizenship and a photo ID in order to vote.

Several voting and civil rights groups immediately filed a lawsuit within hours of the bill being signed, arguing that the bill is unconstitutional and that it "will make it harder for eligible U.S. citizens to vote—and for some, impossible."

Rep. Donalds, on the other hand, is grateful, saying, "We thank Governor DeSantis for signing this piece of legislation. It is only going to make things even more secure in our state." "We treat our elections incredibly seriously. We make sure that ballots are carefully handled as like evidence in a criminal trial or a civil trial, because you want to make sure that you are protecting the ballot and the franchise of the American people," he added,

the Florida congressman commented that "the Democrats, they sue. And quite frankly, they sue all the time for all kinds of ridiculous reasons, but they sue because they want weakness in the controls of our elections, so it helps them find votes to win elections. That is why they sue."

Donalds is not the first Florida Republican to suggest Democrats cheat in elections in their opposition to voter ID laws, as Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) previously alleged in mid-March that the SAVE America Act is "probably the most bipartisan thing I have ever seen" and is overwhelmingly popular among voters, but Democrats are opposed because "they want fraud. They want to allow illegal aliens to vote. That is the only answer."
