A group of Sunny Isles Beach leaders announced their endorsement of Rep. Fabian Basabe (R-Miami Beach) for another term in House District 106 this week.
“I appreciate how responsive and welcoming you have been in your tenure, and for that reason, you may include me among your endorsements. Best of luck to you,” Sunny Isles Beach Vice Mayor Jeniffer Viscarra said.
HD 106 covers part of Miami-Dade County from Aventura down to Miami Beach, including Sunny Isles Beach.
Rep. Basabe was first elected to HD 106 in 2022 after beating Democrat Jordan Leonard with 50.2% of the vote. Basabe then went on to beat Democrat Joe Saunders with 51.3% of the vote in 2024.
“We have worked well with you and your office and always found you to be diligent, attentive, and concerned about the needs of Sunny Isles Beach and neighboring municipalities. I am proud to endorse State Representative FABIÁN BASABE," Sunny Isles Commissioner Alex Lama said.
Sunny Isles Commissioner Fabiola Stuyvesant added," Residents consistently tell me the same thing: he shows up, he listens, and he is accessible. In a time when many feel disconnected from government, Fabián makes people feel heard and understood. He leads with respect and kindness, and he takes the time to explain issues clearly so people can feel confident and informed. That ability to connect with people and bring them together is what real leadership looks like."
Former Sunny Isles Beach Mayor and current mayoral candidate Dana Goldman also announced her support for Basabe.
“Representative Basabe has ensured Sunny Isles Beach has a strong and productive relationship with Tallahassee, helping secure meaningful funding and support for projects that benefit our residents," Goldman said.
"Our community benefits when leaders focus on people and results, and Fabián Basabe has consistently demonstrated that approach. Over the years, I have watched the Democratic Party move further away from the pragmatic leadership that many of us once believed in, and I believe our communities benefit from leaders like Fabián Basabe who consistently put people before politics,” Goldman added.
Rep. Basabe thanked the officials for their endorsement.
“I’m grateful for this support because it reflects a shared commitment to our communities. When leaders stay focused on people, communicate openly, and work together, we can accomplish a lot for the residents we represent,” Basabe said.
Candidates Lucia Baez-Geller and Ashley Diego are running against Basabe in the Democratic primary.
The HD 106 general election is Nov. 3.
