WASHINGTON—Is the table being set for a Governor Ron DeSantis vs. Secretary of State Marco Rubio presidential showdown in 2028, if Vice President JD Vance begins to fade?

Even though the entire political world believes that Vice President J.D. Vance will be the 2028 Republican presidential nominee, both Governor DeSantis and Secretary Rubio continuing to have presidential aspirations that could challenge VP Vance, if they decides to run for President of the United States.

Both Gov. DeSantis and Secretary Rubio have run for president, and against President Donald Trump.

Both were trounced by Trump, but only Rubio was on the very short list to be tapped Vice President in 2024.

"We'll see," said Governor Ron DeSantis when Fox New's Sean Hannity asked him if he would run for President.

Here is DeSantis entire answer to Hannity's question:

"We’ll see. I mean, I think that in ’24, like in Iowa, the people that voted for Trump—if he wasn’t running, I would have gotten like 90% of those people. They were conservative voters, right? They didn’t want the non-conservative. They wanted me. But the timing didn’t work out, obviously, for that. So you just got to see what happens."

Also known as "America's Governor," Gov. DeSantis is locked on running in 2028, and has told donors as much.

Gov. DeSantis has reshaped Florida into the state that everyone appears to want to relocate to.

This is undeniable.

President Donald Trump

But while the more monotoned DeSantis has the governing  bona fides and has several potential Florida-based billionaire presidential donors a phone call away, America's Governor cannot compare to Secretary Rubio unmatched and likable personality.

Secretary Rubio has always been the class clown behind closed doors, and those who know him well will say that his infectious and jokester persona is not just show and tell on the national stage.

Rubio's funny side has been on display on countless occasions during cabinet meetings and in press conferences.

Americans relate to that. Presidential candidates need to be likable.

Some of us can neither deny nor confirm that Rubio has one of the best Tony Montana/Scarface impersonations.

But aside from his flashes of perfectly timed jovial behavior, Rubio has proven the world that he was cut out for the job as Secretary of State.

Just like DeSantis governing is untouchable, Rubio's foreign policy prowess and off-the-cuff speaking skills are beyond reproach and comparison.

Also, let's not forget that Rubio could be the first bilingual Hispanic President of the United States, a political feather in the hat that both Republican and Democratic parties would love to obtain.

Wait, Rubio is trilingual.

One cannot dismiss the importance and significand of Spanglish in South Florida. Rubio checks of that box.

In addition, Rubio has been able garner the support of some of the most influential, sometimes controversial Republican influencers like Laura Loomer, Benny Johnso, and  Roger Stone, while DeSantis has been able stoke their ire.

DeSantis does have his share of influencer suppurt, including that of Dave Rubin.

The 2028 primary elections will kick off in the summer of 2027, it will be interesting to see where both DeSantis and Rubio are at that juncture.

Rubio could still be Secretary of State and DeSantis will be out of office.

Regardless, both men could begin to frame out the 2028 presidential cycle sooner than later.

  1. Even as a Trump supporter I have to say, to be fair Laura Loomer was simply a Trump groupie. That’s why she went after DeSantis.
