Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced his endorsement this week of Republican nominee Jon Maples in his race for Florida House District 87.
"Jon Maples brings real-life experience, strong values, and a deep commitment to Florida families," Uthmeier wrote in a social media post. "He understands the challenges facing our state and is ready to lead with common sense. Jon will be a principled voice in Tallahassee. I’m proud to endorse Jon Maples for FL House 87."
Maples, a career financial planner and former collegiate basketball player for Palm Beach Atlantic University, defeated Gretchen Miller Feng with well over 80% of the vote in the HD 87 Republican primary earlier this month. He now faces Democrat Emily Gregory in the special general election on March 24.
HD 87 covers parts of West Palm Beach, Palm Beach, Palm Beach Gardens, Palm Beach Shores, North Palm Beach Shores, South Palm Beach, Lake Worth Beach, Juno Beach, Hypoluxo, and Lantana in Palm Beach County.
The winner will replace Republican Michael "Mike" Caruso, who resigned from the seat after being appointed Palm Beach County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller by Gov. Ron DeSantis last August.
Along with Uthmeier, Maples has received endorsements from Rep. Meg Weinberger (R-Palm Beach Gardens) and President Donald Trump. Maples has described himself as a supporter of Trump and his "America First" policies during his campaign.
Maples also praised Trump's agenda during an interview with The Floridian last May.
"It is my Great Honor to endorse America First Patriot, Jon Maples, who is running to represent the wonderful people of Florida's 87th State House District," Trump wrote on Truth Social ahead of the primary. "Jon is a very successful businessman and Civic Leader, who is known and loved, and also endorsed by so many of my Palm Beach County friends, including by Great State Representative 'MAGA' Meg Weinberger."
