Florida Senator Rick Scott (R) has introduced legislation to eliminate the special tax exemption currently held by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Sen. Scott, like many other Republican lawmakers, including Rep. Randy Fine (R) and Governor Ron DeSantis, believes that CAIR has unequivocal "ties to terrorism.
The bill, No Tax-Exemptions for Terror Act, stated that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has established that CAIR has "ties to terror activity."
“Groups like CAIR, which identify as charities yet have been identified by the FBI as having ties to terrorist activity, don’t deserve special tax treatment or get breaks designed for charitable organizations. Period. My bill makes that clear by revoking their tax-exempt status. America fights terrorists; we do not fund them," stated Sen. Scott
Over in the House of Representatives, Rep. Fine has already filed legislation to designate CAIR as a terrorist organization.
“Enough is Enough. For far too long, groups like CAIR have operated in our country and on our college campuses, promoting violent radical ideologies and defending the indefensible. CAIR has no place in American society. This is a group that celebrated the massacre on October 7th, saying it made them ‘happy'. I was proud to lead Florida in designating CAIR as a terrorist front, and I will be 'happy' when Congress does the same,” said Congressman Fine.
On October 7, 2023, the day the Hamas terror group killed 1,200 innocent Israelis in an unprovoked and coordinated attack along the border between Gaza and Israel, CAIR-FL put out a statement "firmly standing behind the Palestinian people" and failing to condemn the attack.
