Republican Ralph Massullo rolled past Democrat Ash Marwah with 59% of the vote to win the Senate District 11 Special Election this week. Marwah received 41% of the vote in the essential route.

"Congratulations to @RalphMassullo on his election as the next Senator for Florida’s 11th District," the Florida GOP wrote. "As a proven conservative leader, he will continue to deliver real results for Floridians!"

Massullo succeeds Blaise Ingolia in the seat, who went on to become Florida's chief financial officer in July.

While being new to the Senate, Massullo served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2024. Outside of politics, Massullo has been a physician and business owner for three decades.

Florida Agricultural Commissioner Wilton Simpson also congratulated him on his victory.

"Dr. Massullo is a champion for rural Florida, hard-working families, and a more affordable Florida. Welcome to the Senate, Dr.!" Simpson wrote.
SD 11 covers Citrus, Hernando, and Sumter counties, as well as parts of Pasco County. It is also heavily Republican, with Ingolgia winning the seat with over 69% of the vote in 2024.

Given those facts, Massullo was probably a shoo-in to win the race long before the results rolled in on Tuesday night. Gov. Ron DeSantis also endorsed him in the race, furthering the probability of a win.

In addition, Massullo received a significant endorsement from the Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) in July. The AIF is known as "The Voice of Florida Business” in the Sunshine State.

"As a physician, a business owner, and a former state representative, Ralph has been a leader in his community for more than two decades and has served his neighbors admirably,” AIF President and CEO Brewster Bevis said in July.  “During his time in the legislature, he proved he will fight for the best interests of not only his fellow Floridians, but the business community as well. Ralph understands the importance of ensuring Florida’s economy continues to thrive, so its residents can prosper, and that’s why AIF is proud to extend our support to his Senate campaign.”

While facing an uphill battle, Marwah had solid credentials of his own. The 78-year-old is a Vietnam War veteran and longtime small business owner.
