Florida gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner (R) recently announced the formation of his Flagler County Leadership Committee as he seeks to build grassroots support in the governor's race.
“Flagler County is my home. It is a growing and vibrant community, and I’m incredibly grateful and honored for the leadership, trust, and support of these men and women,” Renner said. “This committee represents the best of Flagler County. They are hardworking Floridians who understand the values that make our state strong— faith, freedom, economic opportunity, and safe communities. Thank you for placing your trust in me, and I am excited to work with you to take our Florida First message to the voters.”
Renner was raised in Northeast Florida.
According to the Renner campaign, the Flagler County Leadership Committee will focus on grassroots outreach, voter engagement, event coordination, and relaying the gubernatorial candidate's message on affordability and safety. The committee specifically will encompass area business, community, and faith leaders who advocate for Renner's Florida First approach as he mounts his campaign.
The leadership committee includes 14 members, some of whom are listed below.
- Flagler County Commissioner Greg Hansen
- Flagler County School Board Chair Christy Chong
- Former Flagler County Chair Donald O’Brien
- Civic leader and radio personality David Ayres
- Attorney and Flagler County business leader Michael Chiumento
The rest of the list can be found here.
More county leadership teams are expected, the campaign noted.
Renner's announcement comes after launching a statewide committee focusing on women voters and women's issues last week. The former Florida Speaker of the House appears as if he's trying to garner grassroots support against U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), who has already raised a ton of money and is arguably the overwhelming favorite in the governor's race.
Renner, however, has indicated he has some cash of his own.
The Republican gubernatorial primary is scheduled for Aug 18, 2026, with the general election on Nov. 3.
