In an exclusive interview with The Floridian, Florida Congressman Byron Donalds (R) warned against the dangers of “wide open immigration,” asserting that the U.S. is the best country in the world and that "wide open immigration" must be stopped to avoid the kind of crisis that Europe is facing.

“I think the issue is that there are countries in the world we know that are not at the standard of the United States of America. That's a fact," Donalds assured. "They're not up to our standard. That's why people immigrate to the United States.”

The Congressman cited President Donald Trump’s assertion that people view the U.S. as the best country in the world, which is why so many choose to emigrate to the United States.

“What the president is asserting is that, yes, we have the best country in the world. We have to protect it,” Donalds remarked.

Accusing the Democratic Party of supporting “wide open immigration” policies, Donalds claimed that they will lead to “issues” like those seen in Europe due to immigrants refusing to assimilate into their country’s culture and way of life.

“What we can't allow is what the Democrats want: wide open immigration, illegal and legal, and they do not want assimilation," Donalds accused. "The issue that has happened in Europe, which we don't want to see happen here in the United States, is that if you're going to immigrate to America legally, that's fine. But you have to assimilate into the American way of life.”

When further questioned about the Democrats’ immigration policies, their plans to ban voter ID, and the filibustered SAVE Act, Donalds said that the SAVE Act has not passed because Democrats want to ban voter ID and allow anyone to vote for them, U.S. citizen or not.

“[Democrats] are talking about banning [voter ID]. They don't have a voter ID in California, and a lot of these blue states don't even want you to demonstrate who you say you are when you go to cast a ballot," Donalds commented. "That's why the SAVE Act didn't pass. If they could get the votes tomorrow to clear the filibuster, I totally believe it would be on the Senate floor. It will pass and will go to President Trump's desk for signature.”
