The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is focusing its efforts on two congressional races in Florida that they feel could be in play in the 2026 Midterm elections—the districts of Reps. Jared Moskowitz and Darren Soto.
With Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick having been indicted by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for allegedly stealing $5 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds, as well as making illegal campaign contributions, the NRCC is now targeting both Reps. Moskowitz and Soto for not calling on their colleague to resign from the U.S. House of Representatives.
In similar press releases, the NRCC stated that both Democratic members have "stayed radio silent" on the matter and called on them both to "do the right thing" and ask Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick to resign.
It's been two days since Darren Soto's fellow Democrat, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, came under federal indictment for stealing $5 million in FEMA funding and funneling it to her own company and her campaign.

“Out of touch Democrat Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick is facing federal charges for stealing millions in emergency aid from taxpayers to line her own pockets. If Darren Soto does not call on her to resign immediately, he's as much of a fraud as she is," stated NRCC Spokeswoman Maureen O'Toole.
Republicans hold a razor-thin majority in the lower chamber and are looking to expand their voting advantage, but if Rep. Cherfilus-McCormick resigns, don't expect Republicans to win her very deep-blue congressional district.
Former Navy submariner George Moraitis (R) is considered the best chance in over a decade to defeat the Democratic-controlled district that Rep. Moskowitz currently represents.
Moskowitz is considered a moderate Democrat, and is well-liked by many Republicans in Congress.
