Representative Randy Fine (R-FL) received a letter from Qatar's Ambassador to the United States, Meshal Hamad Al Thani, after he appeared on independent journalist Laura Loomer's podcast denouncing the country's influence in the U.S.
Loomer shared the letter on X, writing, "Qatar thinks they can silence our legitimate and accurate criticism of state sponsors of terrorism. This is Sharia blasphemy laws at its finest!"
During his appearance on her show, Rep. Fine and Loomer discussed Qatar's supposed funding of the college campus protests in support of Hamas in the wake of October 7th, 2023, which Ambassador Al Thani says is false.
Additionally, Al Thani dismissed their concerns about the Trump Administration's recent decision to allow Qatari pilots to train at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho, noting that American allies have previously trained their forces in the United States.
Moreover, Al Thani points out that Florida has a Muslim population of approximately 127,000, and thus assumes Rep. Fine's remarks were not meant to be understood as "a categorical fear of Muslims."
According to Loomer's post on X, the letter is an exercise in intimidation. "If you don't shut up about Jihad, we will fund a campaign against you, and we will mobilize Muslims in Florida with our foreign funds to vote you out of office," she warned.
"The 'evidence' in the letter sent by Qatar is laughable, as it relies on a statement by the Trump-hating former DEMOCRAT DNI, Avril Haines, who was a literal DEI hire," Loomer continued. "@Amb_AlThani's comments about university remittances are false. And worst of all, the only reason we still have ANY military cooperation with Qatar is because of the hundreds of millions of dollars Qatar has spent lobbying Congress to not close our base at al-Udeid. Several members have made efforts to close our base in Qatar over Qatar's continued financing of global Islamic terrorism."
"The Trump administration must not allow for these jihadist Muslims to threaten members of Congress and journalists who refuse to turn a blind eye to Qatar's long history of funding Islamic terror in the Middle East, and their efforts to provide safe haven to HAMAS leadership in DOHA," Loomer concluded.
