Representative Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) discussed ongoing negotiations between Democrats and Republicans to prevent a government shutdown in a recent appearance on Fox Business' Mornings with Maria. Haridopolos believes that Democrats are "upset there is actually good news out there."
Given that there are two legislative days left to vote on a continuing resolution (CR), host Maria Bartiromo asked Rep. Haridopolos to share his expectations.
"We have done our work in the House in a bipartisan fashion," Rep. Haridopolos assessed. "We are trying to do some common-sense things here."
The Florida Republican said that the main goal is to "keep the government open" as well as continue successes like "Record stock market, 3.3% growth, new housing starts." "It is just great news out there, and it seems like Democrats are upset there is actually good news out there."
The Florida Congressman further suggested that Republicans "want to rebuild this economy," especially as foreign investments flow into the United States, because "they know America is open for business, and what better way to keep it open for business than to make sure the government stays open? This is a common-sense situation."
Haridopolos referred to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' (D-NY) recent demand for an "ironclad" healthcare funding deal, saying he agreed with Rep. Jeffries in principle, yet "I am not going to pay for illegal aliens to get healthcare, and that is literally what they are asking for in their huge $1.4 trillion ransom note saying, 'If we do not get our healthcare for other people, we are going to shut down the government.' It is not a good idea. And why derail the success we have had over the last few months in the American economy?"
The Florida Congressman noted that Democrats do not seem intent on returning to pre-COVID spending levels.
"They want to continue big government spending, it is just that simple," Haridopolos concluded. "It is who they are, and the left wing of the party is pushing in this more radical direction."
