Representative Mike Haridopolos (R-FL) discussed how the Trump Administration can continue maintaining a secure border in a recent interview with The Floridian, emphasizing the need to "maximize" assets.
Rep. Haridopolos briefly admitted that his primary Committees in Congress are the Financial Services and Space Committees, and thus "it is a little bit different ballgame."
"All I know is that we have maximized the use of our military because we literally had an invasion going on, at least 10 million people in the last four years," Rep. Haridopolos continued, adding, "And the sad thing is, we do not even know who these people are. I mean, we get on an airline, we show our ID. So I think we used a unique circumstance to secure the border."
The Florida Congressman further noted that Congress has allocated $150 billion for border security, and "the other part is just the use of technology, and I think we need to maximize it along those lines."
Haridopolos also emphasized that maintaining a secure border is also "a humanity issue," having recently hosted a symposium on human trafficking.
"This is barbarism," the Florida Congressman said. "They sell these young boys and girls into sexual slavery, and you see these children that are being brought into this country with who knows who. And now the message is being sent. A lot of people are self-deporting right now because they realize that they do not want to live in this state of fear where they can be preyed upon even more now here in the United States."
Last January, Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) spoke with The Floridian about the horrors of human trafficking along the border, describing how children are frequently "recycled" and sent across multiple times with different people.
"On my very first trip to the border," recounted Rep. Cammack, "I met a nine-year-old girl who was an [Unaccompanied Alien Child] and she, on her journey, had been passed around and was gang-raped on the American side by members of the cartel. Nine years old."
