Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power laughed at the notion of Democratic Rep. Angie Nixon jumping into the Florida Senate race on Thursday. The Republican chairman shared a political message apparently associated with Nixon, saying the Jacksonville representative is considering a run for the seat.
"I needed a good laugh today, looks like @AngieNixon wants to lose a U.S. Senate race. I think it's a great idea," Power said.
Below is how the text message reads, per Power's X account.

As of now, Florida Senator Ashley Moody (R) is looking to retain her Senate seat in the election, which takes place next November. Sen. Moody has been endorsed by President Donald Trump and is likely a clear favorite to win the Republican nomination in the race.
Looking to challenge Moody is Democrat Jennifer Jenkins, a former Brevard County School Board member who made headlines by defeating another Brevard School Board commissioner, Tina Descovich, in a 2020 board seat election.
A jump into the race by Nixon could create a primary challenge for Jenkins, who beat Descovich despite Brevard County being pro-Trump. Nixon is a progressive Democrat in the Florida Legislature.
If Nixon were to enter the race and defeat Jenkins in the Senate Democratic primary, her ability to then win in a general election might be a tall task.
Moody is a Trump, MAGA ally and has been one of the busiest Senators in her brief time in Washington. Trump also won Florida by 13 points in the 2024 presidential election, making his endorsement of Moody even more powerful.
Nixon also ridiculed conservative icon Charlie Kirk as a "homophobic, antisemitic, misogynistic" after he was assassinated in an X rant last week. Florida Republicans hold a nearly 1.4 voter registration advantage over Democrats in the state, and Kirk's death has since ignited many to register to vote to continue his message.
