Gov. Ron DeSantis recently announced the return of Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, which will run from Friday, August 1 through Sunday, August 31. The period allows Floridians to enjoy savings on school supplies and other items tax-free as kids head back to school across the state.
“Proud to deliver additional sales tax holidays, including the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday that begins on August 1. With the new school year just around the corner, Florida families can save on back-to-school shopping during the tax holiday for the entire month of August,” DeSantis said in a press release. “By cutting taxes, empowering parents, and growing our economy, we're making it easier for people to live, work, and thrive in the Free State of Florida.”
Florida's sales tax holiday was passed by lawmakers and signed by the governor in June. The law is also permanent, providing parents with yearly savings just before their kids return to school.
The following items $50 or less are included in the tax holiday:
- Binders
- Notebooks
- Pens and pencils
- Lunch boxes
Moreover, clothing, footwear, and apparel priced at $100 or less are included tax-free. Those items are backpacks, pants, shoes, shirts, and sweaters.
Learning aids selling for $30 or less are also a part of the tax holiday. They include the following items:
- Interactive Books
- Puzzless
- Flashcards
Lastly, personal computers and accessories priced at $1,500 or less are included during the tax-free period. Those items are laptops, flash drives, printers, and headphones.
First Lady Casey DeSantis also announced the news on social media.
"Florida’s month-long Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday starts August 1st. School supplies, applicable electronics, clothing, and learning aids will be tax-free," DeSantis said.
Along with its Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, Florida has a hunting, fishing and camping sales tax holiday from Sept. 8 to Dec. 31.
