Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) ripped Senate Democrats for refusing to confirm President Donald Trump's appointees unless Republicans acquiesce to funding demands in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, saying it is "no better than a toddler stomping their feet and taking their ball because somebody else was in their sandbox."
With a government shutdown expected at the end of September, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), together with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), demanded that Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) meet with them.
The Democrat leaders said they would not continue with rescissions or approve any nominees put forward by Trump to fill his Cabinet, which Rep. Cammack denounced.
"It is clear that they are giving us their playbook," Rep. Cammack began, "I mean, what they have basically done is said that they have been drunken sailors, demanding all of their earmarks, all of their pet projects, and now they are to the point where they have to withhold the nominees so that they can get their way. This is no better than a toddler stomping their feet and taking their ball because somebody else was in their sandbox."
Moreover, the Florida Congresswoman pointed out that refusing more rescissions would be received poorly, as "anyone with a pulse knows how very popular it was seeing the waste, fraud, and abuse being identified by DOGE [the Department of Government Efficiency] that was highlighted in the first rescissions package."
"So what we have seen in this letter, but also the actions of Senate Democrats, is what is to come in September," Cammack concluded. "As we work through the appropriations process, they know that Republicans are going to push for the real reforms that Americans have demanded, and so they are saying, 'Oh no-no, we are going to make sure that we get our earmarks,' which are wildly unpopular, and they say that they are going to shut down the government. This is just a taste of what is to come."
Senator Ashley Moody (R-FL) similarly blasted Democrats' refusal to confirm Trump nominees recently, saying, "We are STILL at zero civilian unanimous consent confirmations—a historic level of obstruction by Dems. Good government is a functioning government. It's time to get to work, move these nominees forward, and give the President the tools he needs to keep putting America first."
