Representative Kat Cammack (R-FL) mocked newly reelected Washington, D.C. Councilman Trayon White for saying he and the City Council are "responsible" in a post to X (formerly Twitter).
President Donald Trump has mobilized the District of Columbia's National Guard to address the violent crime plaguing the nation's capital, which included the assassination of two U.S. Embassy staffers in May.
Representative Byron Donalds expressed support for the measure, saying, "Washington, DC is a VIOLENT CITY. Democrats are defending lawlessness. No matter how hard they try, Democrats can't gaslight people who live in a violent city into believing their lived-experiences aren't true."
Among the critics of the decision is Trayon White, who was expelled from Washington, D.C. City Council in February, after he was arrested and charged with taking a $156,000 bribe in August 2024, with his trial set to begin in 2026. However, White regained his seat in July, claiming he was unfairly targeted and that the FBI is out to "kill" him.
Speaking with reporters about Trump's mobilization of the National Guard to address the city's crime rate, White said, "I think we have one of the strongest budgets of any city for the last 20 years."
"We are fiscally responsible. We have a AAA bond rating," White continued, adding, "We've shown that we can be responsible with our funds. We don't need federal interference. In fact, they've only crippled Washington D.C. and the progress we've made over the last four decades."
Rep. Cammack pointed out the irony in her post to X, saying, "Can't make this sh*t up," followed by a facepalm emoji.
"D.C. councilman facing active case from six-figure bribery case calls himself "responsible," Rep. Cammack continued with a laughing emoji, adding, "Gosh, it sure would be a shame for that "federal interference" to get in the way of their corruption & kickbacks."
