In a major win for democracy, a Miami-Dade Circuit Court judge has ruled in favor of mayoral candidate Emilio Gonzalez and the voters of the City of Miami, restoring the 2025 election for Mayor and City Commissioner.
The court struck down the controversial ordinance that sought to delay the election to 2026 — a move that would have extended the terms of current officeholders without a public vote.
“This is a victory for every voter in Miami,” Gonzalez said following the decision. “The people have the right to choose their leaders — not politicians behind closed doors.”

Once again, Miami Politics takes a page out of the Banana Republican playbook

Gov. Ron DeSantis has strongly opposed the City of Miami's plan to cancel the November elections. He said he was "highly skeptical" of the plan when first asked by The Floridian in May, and has since threatened to intervene.
The governor is expected to issue a statement shortly.

This is breaking news...
