U.S. Sen. Rick Scott, (R-FL) is leading a Florida delegation in a letter addressed to President Trump outlining the many reasons why he should choose Florida as NASA’s new headquarters location.

Scott notes that NASA’s current headquarters lease in Washington, D.C., will expire in 2028 and points out that the agency plans to build a new $500 million facility in the National Capital Region.

President Trump, however, has expressed interest in decentralizing parts of the federal government, pushing states like Florida and Texas to request for the relocation of federal agency headquarters away from the nation’s capital.

“Relocating NASA's headquarters to Florida will cultivate a new age in American space achievement. Washington's bureaucratic environment has hindered NASA's efficiency, while Florida is the undisputed leader in space operations. In 2024 alone, Florida hosted 93 launches - more than Communist China and Russia combined.” he wrote.

Scott also said relocating to Florida will “Save taxpayer dollars, embed NASA within the space industry, enhance efficiency and streamline operations, leverage a world-class workforce, and ensure global connectivity.” among various other benefits.

Alongside Scott, 22 other delegates and 1 senator have also signed the letter urging the Trump Administration to consider Florida as a new home for NASA HQ.

U.S. Sen. Ashley Moody, (R-FL), posted to social media a video where she “made it official that she wants NASA headquarters relocated from D.C. to KSC as part of the Cape Canaveral Act.”

Moody held a roundtable along with stakeholders from UCF, Embry Riddle, UF, FIU, and Rep. Mike Haridopolos, (R-FL), at Space Florida.

“This is really about winning the space race once again.” stated Haridopolos.

Another member of the Florida Delegation, Rep. Jimmy Patronis, (R-FL), said on his social media, “I was proud to support this effort, especially with greater activity related to the Gulf Of America.”

NASA Watch obtained a leaked memo this week from NASA Administrator Janet Petro. It signals a potential reorganization of the agency, including buyouts to longtime employees and staff reductions. However, It did not offer any hints about whether an agency relocation is on the horizon.
