Representative Carlos Gimenez (R-FL) visited Butler, Pennsylvania, on Monday, where he debunked the "steep roof" argument put forth by the Secret Service for their failure to secure the building from which former President Donald Trump's would-be assassin took his shot. He further discussed the numerous holes in security during a recent appearance on Fox and Friends First, saying, "We do not have enough time for me to tell you what they did not do well."
With his extensive background as a former firefighter and SWAT officer, Rep. Gimenez brings a unique perspective to the table. His experience handling numerous incidents allows him to identify the glaring security violations in this case. He said, "We do not have enough time for me to tell you what they did not do well."
While he acknowledged that "The Secret Service is never going to have the sufficient number of people to do the full protection, that is why you have meetings, and then you will sign either the state agencies, local agencies, county agencies, what they have to do, what it is that they are protecting, and how they have to go and do that. I do not think that happened at all. I do not think there was any real coordination between the Secret Service and the local agency. You cannot blame the local agencies. They are not in the dignitary protection business. That is not what they do every day."
Host Carley Shimkus further noted that the Secret Service and local authorities were not on the same radio channel, which Rep. Gimenez said was "normal because you cannot have everybody on the same channel."
However, they were supposedly too far apart to adequately communicate.
Nevertheless, Shimkus asked about a hearing held by the House Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday after Monday's infamous House Oversight hearing with Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who will not appear in the Tuesday hearing.
Shimkus asked Gimenez why Cheatle would not appear, to which he answered, "Because we are going to be asking the same kind of questions."
"I mean, there are so many mistakes, there are so many things that they did wrong. Every single step was like like, boom, they did this wrong. They did that wrong. Everything was wrong. It was just a complete disaster there," Gimenez concluded.
