Thousands of people from all over the world, including countries opposed to America, continue to cross the border. In a recent appearance on Fox News's Hannity, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) warned, "Something terrible is going to happen. It is just a matter of time now," while discussing the number of people found on the terror watchlist who were able to enter the country.
How they can, Sen. Rubio said, was because "you cannot vet them because in some cases they are coming with fake documents and [in] other cases, these documents are produced in countries that will sell you a fake document without your real identity. That is a fundamental problem when you allow people to come in like this."
Nearly 600 people on the terror watchlist were encountered at both borders (many coming from the North) in Fiscal Year 2023, according to CBP statistics, and the number of getaways and possible migrants with fake identities only increases the likelihood of terrorists entering the country.
Sen. Rubio indicated it was "common sense" that terrorist organizations such as ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Hezbollah are "aware that the largest smuggling operation in the history of the world is operating right on the border of the United States."
More ominously, he agreed with host Sean Hannity that "something terrible is going to happen. It is just a matter of time now. I hope that I am wrong. I really, truly do for the sake of our country, but you cannot let six- well, by the end of this year, probably 10 million or 9 million people into the country and not expect that among them, there are not going to be lots of criminals and lots of terrorists."
Rubio is not the first to express concern about a terror attack perpetrated by a terrorist who entered the country illegally, as Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), and Rubio's colleague Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) have voiced similar fears since October.
Similarly, Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) recently highlighted the involvement of Chinese criminals, with possible government approval, working with the cartels to launder money at the border.
