A partial government shutdown grows closer as House Republicans and Senate Democrats continue to butt heads over budgeting. Representative Cory Mills (R-FL) recently appeared on Fox and Friends First, where he blamed Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) for not taking up bills passed by the House, saying this was "the Schumer Shutdown."

Host Carley Shimkus asked if any deal had been reached between the House and Senate, as the projected shutdown is expected at the end of the week.

Rep. Mills answered no, reiterating that his "priority is going to be the same. It is going to be: secure the border and make sure we are looking at our economics, and that has not been addressed in any way."

"And I am not going to tell the American taxpayers, the men and women who are waking up before daylight and going to bed after midnight trying to work every day to afford this cost of living increase, 'by the way, we are going to now tax you to pay someone else's border to be secured, but not our own.' That is not the American way," Rep. Mills added.

Shimkus then asked about the Departments expected to fall victim to the partial shutdown, those being the Departments of Transportation, Agriculture, Housing and Urban Development, and Veterans Affairs.

Mills responded by pointing out House Republicans had passed multiple bills such as the MILCON VA (military construction), the Secure the Border Act, and defense appropriations, yet "The Senate has actually failed to take those up," despite wanting to "continue to try and cram Ukraine funding, and I will not support additional Ukrainian funding."

Moreover, he further condemned this insistence on spending without offsetting costs from other areas, "whether that be from unused COVID funds, whether that be from IRA Green New Deal, whether it be from the IRS, which is what we did before. We took $14.4 billion from the 87,000-plus IRS agents and we allocated it for Israel."

Mills concluded by referring to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as a Democrat, chastising him and Sen. Schumer for their "weak leadership" and not passing bills the House has sent to them.

"So right now, this is the Schumer Shutdown," Mills concluded.
