President Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s ongoing political row over the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ is causing intense debate over whether Republicans should pass the act in an upcoming Senate vote.
The ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ was recently passed in the House of Representatives, and includes a variety of policies including no taxes on tips, tax cuts, and immigration regulations.
Shortly after passing the House, Musk criticized the bill, calling it an “abomination.”
Musk has opposed the bill for its alleged negative impact on the US’s deficit.
Recently, Musk and Trump began an online spat after the latter responded to the former’s criticisms.
Trump even threatened to cut subsidies that presumptively aid Musk’s businesses, while the latter retorted by ordering the “decommissioning” of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, which NASA routinely uses.
Amid the Trump-Musk feud, Democrats have largely criticized the ordeal while Republicans are splintering.
Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) echoed Musk’s sentiment, arguing that the ‘One, Big, Beautiful’ Bill harms American taxpayers.
Senator Paul claimed that the bill “includes the largest increase of the debt ceiling ever and will have the United States borrowing $5T over the next 2 years.”
“This bill,” said Paul, “is the opposite of conservative, and we should not pass it.”
Conversely, other Republican lawmakers have supported the bill and argued vehemently for its passage.
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) promised the Senate would pass the bill after personally meeting with Trump.
“I was at the White House yesterday to meet with President Trump, and one thing is clear: we are going to get the Big Beautiful Bill passed,” said Senator Blackburn.
Others, such as Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), have expressed conditional support for the bill if certain elements are eliminated, namely, provisions that expand the government’s deficit.
Senator Scott explained he would support a bill that “reduces spending and puts us on a path to a balanced budget.”
“That is how we can lower costs for American families,” expounded Scott.
