Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) discussed Senate concerns with the so-called "big beautiful bill" in a recent appearance on Fox Business's Mornings with Maria, saying, "We have got to go through every line of the budget."
"First off, I want to be a 'yes.' I want to get a bill done. I support President Trump's agenda to secure the border, build up the military, and make the tax cuts permanent. I think we have to do all of these things," Sen. Scott began, but added, "Let's live in reality for a second: We are running $2 trillion deficits. If we follow the path of the House bill, we will have close to $60 trillion worth of debt in 10 years."
After all, he emphasized that "the American taxpayer has said they do not want higher taxes. They do not like the taxes we have now. They are not giving us more money," and thus, "What we have got to do is do what every family does: We have got to go through every line of the budget."
Host Maria Bartiromo pointed out the irony of the Florida Senator's insistence on greater budget cuts despite the Senate mandating a paltry $4 billion in spending cuts back in April.
As Scott explained, however, "That was the resolution to get the process started. We have always committed that we are going to find more cuts than that because it is different than the House when the Senate starts its resolution process; we have to hit every number at the minimum."
"So, historically, what they have done on reconciliation, the Senate has just put low numbers," Scott continued, adding, "But I am all in. I do not know a Republican colleague who does not want to get to a balanced budget. I do not know anyone who does not want to help Trump get his agenda done. So I think we can get there. I am optimistic. It is going to take a lot of work, but I think we can clearly get this big, beautiful bill done. I think we can clearly have fiscal sanity."
