Florida International University has dominated headlines for their legal and medical programs.  Now the university in South Florida is ushering in an impressive set of new set of Senior Leadership Fellows at the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom.

The list from FIU includes former President of Ecuador, Jamil Mahuad.  Mahuad was president from 1998-2000.  the former president played an instrumental role in negotiating and signing a definitive peace treaty with neighboring Peru, ending one of the longest territorial disputes in the region.

Interim President of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, who served from 2019-2023.  He was the primary opposition to the current dictator, Nicólas Maduro, and was recognized by a multitude of Western governments.

Robin S. Bernstein, United States ambassador to the Dominican Republic from 2018 to 2021.  Bernstein is a leader with over forty years of experience in business, government, and the non-profit sector.  Bernstein has acquired recognition through working with former President Jimmy Carter (D) and dealing with the initial outbreak of COVID-19 on the national stage.

The minister of foreign affairs for Croatia and the Croatian ambassador to the United States will also be joining the already prestigious group.  Žužul is currently employed with at Arnold Porter LLP, where he advises on geo-political issues such as NATO, the EU and world economics.

Recently, FIU made a statement when they jumped to being named in the top 75 universities in the United States.  Now it seems that the country and the world are paying attention to the once small institution that is making big changes in the academic and political world.
