Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz (R) is arguably one of the most popular and feared Republican congressmen in the House of Representatives. While he is a veteran at mixing it up with Democrats on the political playing field, Rep. Gaetz is also a huge sports fan and recently traveled as far as Qatar to watch the Nov. 29 U.S. Men’s Soccer World Cup game against Iran.

The U.S. defeated Iran 1-0.

No one knew Gaetz had secretly traveled to Qatar. A source close to The Floridian (not a fan of Gaetz) sent over an Instagram Story video of Gaetz getting his car shortly after the conclusion of the game with Iran.

Gaetz is said to have traveled back to Washington the very next day, but we could not confirm that he did.

We spoke to Rep. Byron Donalds (R) hours after the game concluded as he was walking in the House chamber for evening votes, telling him that Gaetz was in Qatar watching the game.

Rep. Donalds was in complete disbelief that Gaetz had flown all that way to see the game, but praised his dedication and commitment to supporting the U.S. on the world stage.

We spoke to Gaetz several days after the game, where he confirmed that he did travel to Qatar, stating that he was “a huge fan of U.S. Soccer.”
