It’s the end of the year and every Florida news publication out there has its winners and losers of the year.

But while several of The Floridian’s political winners and losers of 2022 have also made it on other websites, our list highlights a couple of the unsung losers that failed to make it on other lists.

Regardless of whether you agree with our assessment of who topped the list of Champs and Chumps, 2022 was one heck of a year in Florida politics.

The Winners

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

Gov Ron DeSantis

With a Chik-Fil-A spicy chicken sandwich in one hand, his veto pen in the other, and his black cowboy boots affixed to his feet, “America’s Governor” is now the favorite Republican to run for President in 2024.

Gov. DeSantis crushed it this year. Crushed it.

The policies he put in place in Florida are the envy of every state in the union, and his no-bullshit approach to governing and politicking set the tone for arguably the biggest Red Wave election Florida has ever seen.

Now DeSantis is again following up on promises and threats made. Look out Drag Queens, DeSantis is coming after you.

First Lady Casey DeSantis

Casey DeSantis

While juggling a demanding gubernatorial schedule and three little whippersnappers under the age of 6 on a daily basis, Casey DeSantis also won her high-profile battle with breast cancer.

Word on the street is that she is a better golfer than you know who.

Sen. Marco Rubio

Sen. Marco Rubio

Sen. Rubio played the role of David in his epic senatorial slugfest with Rep. Val Demings, whose “Goliath” campaign war chest led many to believe that she could defeat the senior senator from Florida.

Rubio road the DeSantis Red Wave, and drowned Rep. Deming’s senate hopes of being elected to the senate.

The Arroz con Pollo vote came out for Rubio and DeSantis, rejecting the Progressive movement Demings and Florida Democrats were spearheading.

Christina Pushaw

Christina Pushaw

The California transplant took Florida by storm with her punchy and in-your-face retorts against everything “Woke” and against Progressives, Socialists, and Democrats alike she felt was disseminating untruths and misinformation.

Pushaw was Florida’s Minister of Truth, and Florida Progressives, including St. Petersburg’s own “Cookie Monster,” lost their minds every time she pounced on them via Twitter.

Now, The Floridian is learning that when she is not galavanting around Miami, Pushaw could be positioning herself to stay in the public eye, perhaps even on the national. Stay tuned.

The Losers

Charlie Crist

charlie crist

Mr. For The People, Charlie lost to Gov. DeSantis by 20 points. The loss was his third straight statewide defeat that all but sealed his political fate.

But wait, this is Charlie we are talking about. The nicest flip flopper and best retail politician in Florida history is probably not done running for office.

We can’t say for sure, but expect Crist to rear his head out somewhere and run for public office.

Carlos Guillermo Smith

Carlos guillermo Smith

When “Carlitos” Smith lost his state house race, Republicans around the state of Florida burst out in cheer and in laughter.

Carlitos just put people off.

He came off as some pompous, self-righteous, and all-things-gay politician that transformed himself into a one-trick LGBTQ pony that forgot he also represented Independent, Republican and Democratic “Breeders” too.

Let’s not forget he embraced and defended Democratic Socialism on the floor of the Florida House of Representatives.

Florida Democrats

The Florida Democratic Party put the exclamation point behind the word “LOSER” this election cycle.

Wow, did they ever shit the bed.

Outside of winning a few races here and there, Florida Democrats took it on the chin, and continue to spiral down the proverbial political toilet.

Where do they go from here?

Anthony Sabatini

Anthony Sabatini

Oh, is this soon-to-be father hated in Republican circles. Sabatini had a bright future in GOP politics, but now has been dubbed “Florida’s Biggest Loser.”

He is right on just about all the issues and was once seen as one of his political party’s rising stars, but people have been turned off by his character.

Sabatini’s political tactics and lack of character lost him his Republican congressional primary race against now-Congressman-elect Cory Mills.

Instead of taking the impending loss like a man, Sabatini reverted to attacking Mills’ wife's race and religion, calling her “radical anti-Christian” in campaign texts and mailings, and social media posts.

Peter Schorsch

Peter Schorsch

Without question, Florida’s biggest loser. I say that figuratively and literally.

Dubbed “The Hamburglar” for obvious reasons, the racial-slur spewing, self-absorbed, cooking-eating, and all around political prick, finally took my advice and went on a diet.

We advised Peter to jump on a diet after seeing him last legislative session lugging around Girl Scout cookies. It wasn’t pretty.

Many politicos around the state think Peter is a clown, but don’t have the balls to call him out (you know who you are), so I will do it for them.

But with that said, I tip my hat to Peter for doing the right thing and putting his family first.

Word is Peter has lost over 100 lbs and has gotten his life together.

Well done. I mean that. Good job losing all that weight, Peter.
