While many Americans have associated the Parental Rights in Education bill with controversy, data may reflect a different reality.  A new poll shows that 60% of Americans back the "Don't Say Gay," bill, especially the language regarding sexual orientation and gender identity being limited in K-3 classrooms.

On Monday, the Daily Wire released a new poll that found almost two-thirds of Americans in support of the Parental Rights in Education legislation.  The pool of 1,000 Americans consisted of 37% Democrats, 32% Republicans, and 31% Independents.  Interestingly enough, the poll showed a +4 point advantage for President Joe Biden (D) in the 2020 ballot among the respondents who said they voted in the election.

The individuals were presented with the highly criticized portion of the legislation that earned HB 1557 the infamous title, "The Don't Say Gay Bill."  Respondents across racial and political lines appear to support the ban, and at any grade level beyond K-3 as well.

Among the political groups represented, 69% of Republicans, 62% of Democrats, and 57% of Independents, parents seemed to support the bill at a higher rate than the national average (68%).

The statistics only reaffirmed what Florida Republicans believe with Speaker Chris Sprowls (R-66) acting as if he saw this coming.  In a statement to the Daily Wire.

"This polling reflects what our common sense already tells us,” Sprowls said. “Only fanatics think the classroom curriculum from kindergarten through 3rd grade should include teaching little children about gender identity.”

The poll also confirms common misconceptions about the bill.  Confusion erupted after Democrats infamously branded the bill as the, "Don't Say Gay," bill which created an abundance of misinformation.

39% of Americans thought the legislation said the word, "gay," in it, along with 45% of Democrats.  22% of Americans and nearly a third of Democrats mistakenly assumed the bill forces schools to "out" LGBTQ identifying students to their families.

This survey was conducted March 12-13, 2022 by Lucid, a Cint Group Company, on behalf of The Daily Wire. It has a margin of error of 5% with a confidence level of 95%. The survey’s respondents were provided by Lucid. It was not a poll of Daily Wire members.
