Anthony Sabatini/ The Floridian
With election season just around the corner, the congressional race in District 7 race is getting ugly early, as challenger state Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R) is taking a victory lap as incumbent Rep. Stephanie Murphy (R-FL) has already acknowledged his candidacy by calling him "the worst, most extreme, Trump-loving Republican."
In a Tweet this week, state Rep. Sabatini quoted the words of Rep. Murphy on June 30, 2021, claiming the Congresswoman states “Anthony Sabatini, the worst, most extreme, Trump-loving Republican”:
The Floridian recently reported on the tense District 7 race, in which the Stephanie Murphy for Congress team sent a fundraiser email that characterized the GOP challenger as an "extremist Trump supporter."
Previously, Rep. Sabatini has found himself in similar struggles in the state legislature, being called a "white supremacist," by colleague Senator Shevrin Jones (D-35). Sabatini then responded to the comment, which the Floridian reported on, “Wokeism is a mental disorder and the comments of this weird leftist state senator demonstrate that perfectly.”
Sabatini in the past has filed unsuccessful bills in the Legislature to rename U.S. Highway 27 the Donald J. Trump Highway and to allow open carry of guns on college campuses.
When Sabatini first announced his campaign, the state representative embraced an America First platform, with a "Make America First Again," kick-off event. Now, he officially has endorsements from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and the infamous Roger Stone. The question is, will Sabatini's go big or go home philosophy on Trump politics alienate his base, or just be enough to unseat Stephanie Murphy?
