Pelosi: Obama didn't need congressional authorization, but Trump does

Republicans are mocking Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats for their apparent hypocrisy over presidential authority to use U.S. military force against a foreign power or terrorist group, or threat to the U.S.

In a 2011 press conference, then-leader Nancy Pelosi (D) was asked to confirm her statement that President Barack Obama did not need "any authorization from Congress" to attack Libya. Leader Pelosi answered with a firm "yes."

House Democrats voted on and passed a non-binding Iran War Powers resolution to prevent President Trump from conducting any further military operation against the Iranian regime without Congress first approving.
