The Florida Planned Parenthood political action committee endorsed several Florida candidates Monday, including Democrats David Jolly and Gwen Graham for governor and lieutenant governor, respectively.
The PAC also announced its backing of Democrat José Javier Rodríguez for attorney general.
The three candidates were joined by a long list of endorsements for Democratic candidates for state office.
“Now, more than ever, Floridians need to elect reproductive rights champions,” Michelle Grimsley Shindano, executive director of Planned Parenthood Florida Action, said in a press release announcing the endorsement. “By electing these endorsed candidates, voters will send a powerful message that the attacks on reproductive healthcare in our state must end.”
All of the candidates endorsed by the PAC support access to abortion to varying degrees.
"The endorsements come as Floridians grapple with increasingly restrictive policies limiting access to reproductive healthcare, and after more than two years under an abortion ban enacted by state lawmakers and Gov. Ron DeSantis," the PAC's press release announced.
This comes two years after a constitutional amendment to make abortion rights a constitutional right failed, earning only 57% of the vote, falling short of the 60% needed to pass.
“Floridians are fed up with politicians inserting themselves in our private medical decisions,” Grimsley Shindano commented through the press release. “They made that clear last election, and we know they will once again use the ballot box to speak up for our reproductive freedoms by electing these remarkable candidates in November.”
