The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement, threatening to extend the conflict in the Middle East “beyond the region,” should the U.S. and Israel resume attacks against the Islamic Republic.
According to Iran’s semiofficial outlet, Mehr News Agency, the IRGC emphasized that if the “American-Zionist enemy” repeats its aggressions, "the regional war that was promised will this time be extended beyond the region, and our crushing blows will bring you to ruin in places you cannot imagine."
Despite the two armies’ use of their full capabilities on Tehran, the IRGC affirmed that Iran has not deployed all of its capacities against the "world’s most expensive military forces."
The IRGC’s statement comes after President Donald Trump told reporters the day prior that he was “an hour away” from striking Iran before being requested to refrain from attack by U.S. allies in the Middle East.
President Trump Responds To The IRGC
Following the Guard’s warning, President Trump told reporters that he was in “no hurry” to resume the conflict, according to CNBC.
“I’d like to see few people killed, as opposed to a lot," President Trump said. “We have them decimated. Iran is decimated.”
The president assured that the conflict will end “very quickly.”
Iran's Chief Negotiator Calls Out the U.S.
Iran’s chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, commented on the potential of the conflict resuming, stating that the United States is seeking to restart the war, hoping that the Islamic Republic will surrender, The Times of Israel reported.
“The enemy’s movements, both overt and clandestine, show that despite economic and political pressure, it has not abandoned its military objectives and is seeking to start a new war,” Ghalibaf said in an audio message issued to Iranian media. “Close monitoring of the situation in the United States reinforces the possibility that they still hope for the surrender of the Iranian nation.”
With the ceasefire between the parties appearing to be on the brink of collapse, federal lawmakers in the U.S. are actively seeking to halt President Trump’s efforts in the Middle East. The Senate recently advanced a War Powers Resolution in a preliminary hearing – the first success in efforts to check President Trump’s Executive power.
