President Trump affirmed that both Israel and Iran “are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE!” following a recent spate of tit-for-tat engagement between both nations.
“Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on “Peace” are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social. “The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a “Final Deal” is reached. Things should move quickly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Iran & Israel's Exchange
According to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Iran and Israel’s series of strikes followed the Islamic Republic's threat to attack Israel and American bases in the Middle East in response to the attack on Beirut.
As part of an agreed-upon ceasefire established on Jun 4, 2026, Israel had initially agreed not to strike the Lebanese capital as long as the Iranian-backed militant proxy, Hezbollah, did not attack Israel. Israel had also agreed to a broader truce with Lebanon, as long as Hezbollah stopped its aggressions.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then ordered a hit on an alleged Hezbollah headquarters located in the southern suburbs of Beirut, after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed to have intercepted Hezbollah rockets aimed at northern Israel.
President Trump Intervenes
In response, President Trump intervened in the exchange, asserting that both nations “must immediately stop 'shooting,'” in a post on Truth Social.
Following President Trump’s demand, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced it was concluding its armed forces operations against Israel, arguing that they “delivered a painful response” to that country.
“Should aggression and hostile actions continue—including in southern Lebanon—far more severe and forceful measures than before will follow,” the IRGC affirmed, according to Iranian state media.
Israel and Iran's exchanges mark the first instance of targeted attacks since President Trump announced an indefinite ceasefire in the Middle East in late April 2026.
