U.S. Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) shared a video clip of his appearance on the Todd Starnes Show, in which he discussed Iran's reliability during the agreed-upon 2-week ceasefire between Washington and Iran amid the nearly 6-week-long conflict.
“So, what happens here if Iran does not hold up its side of the agreement?” Starnes asked.
“Well, I think you’re going to see the president [Donald Trump] re-engage. I don’t see Iran holding up to their side of the agreement. They never really have,” Rep. Steube responded, referring to the Islamic Republic as the “largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world.”
“They support Hamas. They support Hezbollah and all the atrocities that Hamas did in Israel on October 7th [2023]. And the continued atrocities Hezbollah does in Lebanon, despite the fact that the United States government still gives Lebanon money,” the Congressman added.
Iran's 10-Point Deal Following Ceasefire Agreement
Rep. Steube pointed out Iran’s 10-point plan, which was published following President Trump’s agreement to the cease-fire.
“Those are all complete non-starters. They can’t have any enriched uranium, they can’t control the Strait [of Hormuz], they certainly can’t be charging people to go through it, and there’s all of these things that are just completely non-starters.”
Vice President Vance Heads to Pakistan
At the end of the clip, Rep. Steube expressed hope that Vice President (VP) J.D. Vance can help the U.S. reach a finalized deal with Tehran.
“And so, hopefully this weekend, when the Vice President [J.D. Vance] negotiates with whoever they’re negotiating with on the Iran side, it's no enriched uranium, it's no intercontinental ballistic missiles, it’s no controlling the Strait of Hormuz, because you have a ton of different countries – a lot more than us – that take products through the Strait, and you can’t allow a terrorist regime to control who goes in and out of a commercial traffic situation,” Steube commented.
VP Vance is headed to Pakistan for the weekend, as he leads negotiations with the Islamic Republic alongside President Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and special envoy Steve Witkoff. Vance warned Iran not to ‘try to play us’ ahead of the peace talks, when talking to press before boarding Air Force Two.
