Florida Congressman Jared Moskowitz (D) is receiving criticism over a recent podcast appearance. When asked what he would tell his younger self during the podcast conversation, Rep. Moskowitz said, “Go to Wall Street, be a finance bro, do cocaine for a couple of years, get that out of your system. Yeah, that’s what I would tell my 16-year-old self.”
George Moraitis (R), a candidate for Florida’s 23rd Congressional District, took to X to call out Rep. Moskowitz, condemning him for his remarks.
“I just saw a video, Jared Moskowitz, saying he would tell his 16-year-old self to do cocaine for a couple of years if he could go back in time. Jared is a sitting member of Congress, and he is telling kids to do cocaine,” Moraitis said in a video posted on X.
The Republican candidate claimed that Moskowitz’s attitude towards drugs is what “allowed illegal drugs to come flooding in, killing Americans.” “Maybe this is why he let Joe Biden leave the U.S. border wide open. He didn't care that illegal drugs came flooding in, killing Americans, while American drug lords who hate America got rich,” he continued.
Moraitis urged viewers to “say no to drugs and no to Jared come November.”
“This is a joke, and the joke is on us if we don't send Jared to Wall Street to be the finance bro of his dreams come November," he argued. "I was proud to serve my country as a submarine warfare officer in the Navy, and I will be proud to serve my country again in Congress. Say no to drugs and say no to Jared in November.”
Democrats have also taken issue with Rep. Moskowitz's comments, arguing that it's an example that the incumbent lawmaker is unfit for office.
Oliver Larkin (D), who is challenging Rep. Moskowitz in the Democratic primary, slammed the sitting congressman, calling his comments “the most irresponsible thing... ever heard from a member of Congress.”
